It is instead fitting that his superlative piece was the last one that he of all time wrote before he met withhis unfortunate end. However, this ode has some significantdifferences to the other odes that he has written. Firstly, there isno flight from reality, or deviation into imagination or dream, in fact there is no narrative voice at all. Secondly, it has anunprecedented wildness and commemoration of change and progress, notonly by dint of autumn, but by dint of and through all mortal events. While the titleimplies a progression through autumn, the ode also has references toan aging sidereal day, and even personal maturity.The offset printing stanza is brimming with specialised vivid visual imagery.
